Rated 4 de 5 de bigfoot par Sealing problem solved - brand new unit At first, it wouldn't vacuum at all or not completely. It would take forever during the vac cycle, and hands-free wasn't hands-free, it would stop all action when released. I determined THE HAND ICONS are too far apart, simply moving your hands closer together enables it to work perfectly. Also, the power cord is unusually short, given it's low power demand of 1.2 amps (144 watts). I will install a longer one. Don't attempt this if you haven't worked on appliances, it needs to retain double-insulated standards. You can safely use a 6 foot extension cord.

Rated 4 de 5 de Alaskan par Solid Vacuum Sealer I live in Alaska and we catch about 50 sockeye ("reds" as we call them) salmon each summer to sustain us throughout the long winter. In addition to that we usually get a caribou or split a moose with friends, all of which gets sealed. For the salmon, each fillet gets cut in half and sealed, so that makes 200 bags of salmon alone each year. We have this down to an art. I have used a lot of different sealers; A nice $300 Weston and at least 5 different Food Saver models up to $350. The Seal-A-Meal is the only model I will ever buy again, and this is for two main reasons. 1. It has GREAT suction. Much better suction than any of the Food Saver models I tried, and at least as good as the Weston. 2. It is cheap. You can get it on sale for $30. Every vacuum sealer has a limited life. Even the expensive ones usually only last us 3 years. And spending $300, or heck even $200 every 3 years is a lot. These aren't made to last like that 30 year old Coleman lantern sitting in your garage. And the cheap price means we can afford to buy 2 or 3 of these at a time and set up an assembly line to seal our fish (one machine cools off for 30 seconds while the other one seals). There are some tricks to getting good seals with any vacuum sealer. The main idea here is that you want to avoid moisture getting in between the layers of the bag where it will be sealed. To prevent this, take your food (half a salmon fillet for example) and pat it dry with a paper towel. Next, wrap it in saran wrap. Then place the plastic-wrapped food inside of the bag. As an additional measure, we put a strip of dry paper-towel between the food and the open end of the bag, so if any moisture is pulled from the food it will be trapped before it gets to the seal. If we have the time (and patience) we will double-seal each end of the bag. If you follow these steps I PROMISE you that the seal-a-meal vacuum sealer will impress you, especially at $30.

Rated 5 de 5 de Nikki par What a great idea and product. Living alone and buying meats in quantity to save money this helped tremendously to keep my meats fresh without freezer burn. My daughter had given it to me as a gift. The instructions were easy to read and I was thrilled to have something that let me buy in larger quantity without fear of waste or spoilage.

Rated 5 de 5 de dazzy par Works great I received this for Christmas and it has been a great money, time and space saver. I shop meats and meal entrees in bulk and seal them up. When used like brand new fresh. Even butcher prepared entrees come out like fresh made. Great also for cheeses, leftovers, vegetables, and on and on. At first I had a problem like other reviewers with problems creating a vacuum. It worked fine for my husband and I realized that the "press" just had to be a pretty strong press and all is great.

Rated 1 de 5 de pjbrozek par Does not do what it is supposed to do. I bought this several months ago and it is worthless. When I first started using it, I was so happy that I could stand back and watch it seal by itself. Now, the lower rubber sealing part that creates the vacuum pops out of the track and will not complete the seal process. .

Rated 2 de 5 de sumguynobuddynoes par Don't buy it Even though the website refers to soft foods vacuumed can be done by pressing the seal button before it crushes the food... There is not SEAL BUTTON! Wet foods will draw up the fluid into the tray and prevent a seal as the fluid is inhibiting a plastic to plastic touching. A seal button could prevent this when little fluid is in the zone where the seal occurs. This also occurs when the blood from hamburger or fresh meats are pulled into the fluid tray. There is no way to force the seal to occur at an earlier than full vacuum sense condition. It would be nice to have a seal button in order to create the seal on a freshly cut bag from a roll so one does not have to go through the vacuuming process. Many times, I would just like the seal feature like when I am trying to store popcorn or potato chips. When I do want an excellent vacuum drawn, it does not seem to have the power to make a really good vacuum draw which I get from my other brand sealer. It's one redeeming feature is the heating element is at the edge of the machine and I do not have to hit a sensor by inserting the bag two inches to start the thing as I do in other vacuum sealers. So I can seal a bag on it's edge without losing 4 inches each time when making my own bags (i.e. 2 inches to make the initial seal for a three sided bag, and then the 2 inches for the final seal when storing the food.)

Rated 1 de 5 de joan par Does not work. This does not remove the air properly. I tried and tried but it leaves air in just about ALL bags I sealed. This purchase was a waste of $45.00 + tax. I am going to return it for a refund.
